Regular dental cleanings are essential to good oral healthcare.  It is recommended that you get your check-up and cleaning every 6 months.  At their request, many of our patients get their teeth professionally cleaned three times a year.  Professional cleanings involve the removal of plaque and tartar. If which left untreated, plaque and tartar can result in red, bleeding gums and even total tooth loss.

When unhealthy gums and bone loss are presented to the dentist or hygienist, they may recommend a deep cleaning or scaling/root planning procedure. A deep cleaning involves removal of plaque, tartar & bacteria under the gums that a regular cleaning would not.  Usually this procedure requires numbing of the mouth in one form or another.  A popular and effective adjunct to therapy is the use of medicated rinses and/or placement of antibiotics during and immediately following the deep cleaning procedure.  Please consult our doctors to see what type of cleaning is recommended and what therapies would best serve your needs.
